lets start our story at monday night. jj is outside practicing his tball skills while the rest of us are inside watching through the sliding back door. after he hits all the balls off the tee, ellie goes out to help him pick up the balls. i yell to him these words, "dont start hitting again until ellie is inside!". well...what do you suppose happens next. i next hear, "ellie watch out!" and then screaming. i run outside to find her holding the side of her face crying and screaming in pain. i just scoop her up and hold her. i cant look yet because i am too afraid what i might see. i finally look and see a huge goose egg on her eyebrow and eyelid. we get some ice to put on while she calms down. jesse lays with her on the couch while she watches, "ni hao, kai lan". she never lost consciousness and she was her normal self soon after it happened. we didnt worry at all. we just knew she would have a black eye come tomorrow.
the next morning she was acting just fine. she did have a bruise on her eyelid. it looked like she was wearing pink eyeshadow. that day was the day we went to the zoo. her eye never bothered her at all. after we got home, jesse mentioned that all his coworkers said that we should have taken her to the doctor to make sure nothing was broken. i never even thought of that. they were right. at 6pm i take her to urgent care in redlands where i tell the doctor everything and he orders xrays. she did really well but we had to do some over because she kept moving her head. sitting still is tough for her, i cant imagine how hard those poses were for her. she got a lollipop after she was done. she was happy. minutes later, the doctor comes in and says there is no displacement of the bones, but he cant rule out a small fracture. so he orders a ct scan STAT. WHAT!!!!!!! oh my gosh, i couldnt believe it. i ask how serious this is and he says that if there is a fracture, then it will just heal on its own, but if there is a fluid leak along with the fracture, then it will require surgery. he sends me home after 3 hours of being in urgent care saying that they will call tomorrow to set up the appt for an opthomology consult and the scan. ok. i couldnt sleep much that night.
her opthomology appt was at 12:30 and it went great. she was singing to all the elderly people in the waiting room. showing off. the doc dilated her eyes and said everything looks great. no damage at all. good news, now off to the drug store. my next mission is to somehow give my 3 year old a benadryl tablet (one that she should swallow whole) before her scan to relax her. after a couple tries of getting her to swallow it on her own and the pink coating has been sucked off, i do what i do with the dog. i make her open her mouth and throw the pill to the back of her throat and force her to drink orange juice. that did the trick. yea!!! now off to redlands community
hospital.
i get there and the receptionists immediately know who i am without even checking in. i fill out paperwork galore and then jesse shows up. it was nice having him there to help keep ellie's mind off the procedure. he took her for a walk while i waited. they eventually called her name and it was time. the technicians started talking about needing an iodine injection for the scan. they would have to do an iv to be able to do that. we layed her down and was all ready when the phone rang and we needed to wait for authorization to do the iodine part. back to the waiting room we go. finally we are told we wont need to do the iodine injection, just a regular scan of the orbits. we go back into the room and i cant resist but to whip out the camera and take a picture of jesse holding ellie's hand while they are waiting to start. he held her hand while i got to go behind the wall and watch the computer screen as the images would come up. very interesting. i kind of felt like i knew what i was looking at even though i had no clue. you know watching greys anatomy and house should count for something, right? no. completely clueless. just a bunch of black, grey and white images. then we are done. time to go home. they told us we would know that night, but no such luck. we waited and waited...
now we are at thursday morning. i cant wait any longer and i call the urgent care and see if they have the results yet. they actually were faxed 14 minutes prior to me calling. the receptionist said someone will call me right back after the review them. then the phone rings. "hi, is this the mother of eliana najera? well we have her results from her ct scan of her orbits. there are no fractures." praise Jesus!!!! how scary that was, i cant imagine what the parents of other kids who actually have serious injuries go through.
now i feel more relaxed about going to virginia tomorrow. we leave very early and wont be back until monday night. we are going to my cousin's wedding and we are visiting family also. we are leaving the kids with papas and gaga chacho (jesse's parents). here are some pictures of her heroing adventure.
LA ZOO
beginning monday, jj is on spring break for 2 weeks! it is nice because i dont have to run around dropping him off at school and going back 3 1/2 hours later to pick up. on the other hand, i have an extra child to look after during the daytime. so far, so good. it is much crazier and louder since monday began, but also fun too. on tuesday i took my niece and nephew (sienna and diego) and jj and ellie to the LA zoo. i new it would be quite an adventure but we were going to go and have a good time. the tricky part was that diego is potty training and has a fear of public toilets. great. the day went really well. we didnt hit any traffic on the way there or on the way back. awesome!! i love the carpool lane. the kids were able to see many animals, a lot of them were their favorites. the jaguar was our favorite. he/she was eating and then got up and started pacing in front of the fence. he/she was gorgeous. his/her coat was so beautiful. a lot of the animals were actually awake this time. here are some pictures of the day.
