i really cant believe it.
sometimes, i really have to do the math.
i cant believe my son is in the 2nd grade!!!
he is still so little. i still see him as a toddler running around like a crazy man. well, he still runs around like a crazy man. he is just bigger now.
when the list of teachers first came out, we put in for a transfer for another teacher. so for the first two weeks of school, jj had one teacher. then after two weeks, he got transferred to a different class. it is actually a 2/3 combo class. we were a little nervous at first because of jj's age. he is still 6 (until oct.) and he could possibly be in there with 8 year olds. we talked to many people and they said that he will be fine in there. so here we are 2 weeks out from the transfer and we are loving his new teacher and he is doing very well in class. except, with the occasional warning here and there for talking too much.
he is a great reader who is devouring the a-z mysteries by ron roy. we had asked if jj could start taking the AR tests for his books, but his school doesnt use the AR program.
jesse had jj's name added to one of his 2nd grades and now jj takes the AR tests at home after he reads his books. we have a point system with rewards lined up for him for his AR tests. just for kicks, jesse gave jj the STAR reading test to see what his reading level is. we were all blown away. this kid is so smart. his reading level is 4.2. that means 4th grade, 2nd month. the boy is only 6!!!
our only problem we have with jj so far is his need to rush through everything!!! it's like he is a man on the go, and has somewhere to be, that isnt here. i am constantly reminding him to slow down and reread the instructions. write slower, so somebody can actually read what you wrote.
this year should be so productive for him. he has a GREAT teacher and he will be challenged a lot, so i am hoping his behavior will have no chance to act up.
i still cant believe he is in the 2nd grade...
i am really going to lose it next year when ellie starts kindergarten!!!!!
kill me now...

He's a smart cookie because he has such smart parents! As for him rushing through things...I blame Jesse :)
