escape via scooter

this past week was pretty normal. nothing really new or spectacular. jj had two tball games, one on monday and one on saturday. he did really well both times. he is hitting much better than when he first started. he looks sooo cute in his uniform. only a mother would say something like that.

on friday, we had our usual playdate with jj's friend, stone, royce, and andrea. this time she suggested we go ice blocking. i knew what ice blocking was, but i have never been before. i was very nervous that i would look silly and get hurt. i am not as agile as i once was. we went to the park and found a steep hill to slide down. it was really fun! the kids loved it. every once in a while, we would lose our balance, spin around and eat grass!! that was loads of fun. i even had grass stains to prove it. we got very tired, very fast. the kids slept great that day.

friday was the first day of some very hot weather that we have been having. today's high is supposed to be in the 90's possibly hitting 100!!! craziness. so imagine how comfortable jj's game was on saturday at 12:30 in the afternoon. it was ridiculous. so hot!!! the boys did well despite being sooo tired and exhausted. ellie and jj both had pink cheeks despite putting sunscreen on them before the game. again, the kids slept really well that day. after the game, i took jj to a team party at a local restaurant while jesse took ellie home.  we just relaxed the rest of the day. in the evening, i began my latest cake project.

my nephew, diego, was having his 3rd birthday party on sunday and i offered to make his cake. i had planned to make a sheet cake and then a loaf cake to carve into a car. i would set the car cake on the sheet cake to display it. i think this one has been my best so far. i was planning on making a 57 chevy for the car. i was hoping that when i showed diego, that he would know which kind right away. and he did!!

the party was great. he got toys, clothes, shoes, and a cars blanket for his bed. he definitely wasnt impressed with the clothes and shoes. he took the paper out of the bag and then just stared down into the bag. he didnt even want to pull out the clothes. it was really funny. we came home, put the kids to sleep and then ate dinner. after dinner i forced jesse to go on a walk with the family. we took charlie and jj took his scooter. well halfway around the road above our house, jj takes off on his scooter. i couldnt see him anymore because of the bend in the road. i figured he was waiting down by the school. i get closer and see he is not there. so i begin to run down the hill and curve until i can see him. it was pretty far before i could see straight ahead. finally i get around the bend and no jj!! now i begin to worry. i run down to the corner and look both ways down the street. no jj!! i yell his name a couple of times, no answer. now my mind has gone to worse-case-scenario. i think that someone has driven by and kidnapped my son. i run back up the hill until i see jesse and tell him i cant find jj. then i run back down the hill and yell his name again. no jj!! i start to take the path back home where i think he would have gone and low and behold!! there is my son waiting at the top of the hill around another corner. seriously, i wanted to lose my mind. i didnt know whether to yell at him or hug him. i told him to come here now! he knew he was in deep trouble. his excuse was that he knew the way home and that he saw one of his friends' mom. its hard to describe how far he had gone on his own, but it was really far. he was almost as far as his school is away from the house. really scary!! needless to say, he learned a lesson and he isnt allowed to ride his scooter until he knows not to take off and ride into the sunset on his own.
