LATE THIS AFTERNOON, THE NEONATOLOGIST CAME TO SEE SONIA. HE SAID THAT HE DIDNT HEAR SOFIA'S HEART MURMUR ANYMORE AND THAT HER WHITE BLOOD CELL COUNT HAD DROPPED TO A NORMAL LEVEL. GREAT NEWS!!! ALSO, HE SAID THAT HER GRUNTING NOISE WHEN SHE BREATHES HAS DISAPPEARED. PRAISE THE LORD. ONE LAST THING...HER ANEMIA CHANGED FROM SEVERE TO MODERATE. HE THINKS THAT SONIA GAVE THE BABY HER ANEMIA WHILE SHE WAS PREGNANT. THEY BOTH HAVE THE SAME BLOOD TYPE. CHECKING SONIA'S BLOOD FOR FETAL CELLS TO CONFIRM. BOTH BABY AND MAMA WILL TAKE IRON SUPPLEMENTS AND SONIA WILL CONTINUE TO BREASTFEED; HE THINKS IT WILL DISAPPEAR AS WELL. AMEN!!! THANK YOU FOR ALL THE PRAYERS!!!

yesterday, our niece, sofia vanessa portney was born. she was born at 7:57am on 07-08-09. she was born c section without any complications. her mom, sonia (jesse's sister) is doing really well.

since i first started drafting this post, many things have come up regarding sofia.

yesterday around 12 noon, the nurses noticed that she was grunting (apparently a sign of breathing problems) and had her assessed at the nicu for 4 hours. well when i went to visit her and her mama at 7pm. she was still in the nicu. the docs said that she has anemia, some breathing problems, a heart murmur and her white blood cell count was high. they have since put her on antibiotics to cover all their bases. i wasnt able to see her yesterday. sonia was still cathederized so she wasnt able to go down and see her either (as of 9pm yesterday). i'm not quite sure when sonia finally was able to see sofia, but she was able to go down there this morning and nurse her.

last night the nurses said that since the baby is using all her energy to breathe, they had to give her formula. sonia was very sad about that. she is pumping though to bring her milk in.

as of this morning, the doctors notified sonia that if sofia's anemia doesnt get any better soon, they will have to do a blood transfusion on her. SCARY!!! they also ordered an EKG for her heart. i havent heard any more news since that this morning. i am asking everyone to please pray for everyone at the hospital. i will give more updates soon.

Lord, please wrap your arms around sonia and sofia. heal their precious bodies and let them come home healthy and healed. thank you Jesus. amen.
