whenever i see this quilt, i remember the day when ellie received it at the hospital. some sweet ladies made this beautiful blanket and they donated a group of them to the burn unit at arrowhead regional medical center. then, they are distributed to any children burn victims. with that being said, that leads me to my topic for today...2 years ago today, ellie burned her hand on our treadmill. i was using it and wasn't paying good enough attention to her and she stuck her hand between the belt and the bottom of the machine. it sucked her fingers in and she couldnt get them out. once i noticed, the damage was already done. after being transported via ambulance to loma linda and then transfered to san bernardino county's only burn unit, she was diagnosed with 3rd and 2nd degree burns on her fingers and palm. my poor baby!
i still haven't forgiven myself, but i have moved on. i am comforted with the fact that all mother's make mistakes, her fingers are completely healed, and that she will never remember that horrific day. she was only 19 months old. she spent the night in the burn unit and had months of physical therapy for her finger joints. she has very little scarring today. its hardly even noticeable. i know whenever she gets married, her future husband won't even notice the little scars on her ring finger.

How scary! I worry about that stuff when I run on the treadmill too. You are right- move on, knowing it was an accident. Happy Halloween!
