in southern california this past week, we were drowning in rainfall. it rained soooo much here, we practically had a swimming pool in our backyard.
that made my dog crazy! she had major cabin fever.
well, thursday night was supposed to be the worst night of all the storm systems. i woke up on friday morning around 6:30 to start to get the kids up. as i was walking to go downstairs, i looked out the window and saw snow! i ran back to our room and squealed, “it snowed!”. it was as if i was a little kid. who knew snow would do that to someone?
after i found out that the kids wouldnt have school that day, i went outside and started taking pictures. it rarely snows here, so we will take whatever we can get.
jesse’s school had already cancelled school for friday because of flooding, but administration had to go in anyway. he was pretty happy when he learned he wasnt able to go to work because of the weather. the chp were only giving escorts through the pass, so he stayed home.
the kids only lasted 1 hour before they were dressed and bundled up ready to go outside.
they made snow angels and snow children. they had a blast for all of 30 minutes. then the tears came…”i’m freezing!!!!” and “i want to go inside!” thats how you know they are so cal children.
i do have to admit, though, i was ill-prepared for playing in the snow. i mean i do have scarfs, hat, and gloves, but we dont have snow pants, good snow jackets or snow boots. needless to say, they looked like ragamuffins with what i could find to keep them warm and dry.
it kept snowing on and off throughout the day until around lunchtime. i think we got something like 2 to 3 inches when all was said and done. it was super fun to watch the kids play.
we are hoping that maybe we will get another snow day before winter is over. doubtful, but we are hoping!

So beautiful. I miss the snow, but I really miss snow days with no work or school. haha
