well, i did it. i made the two birthday cakes i had promised my nephews.
my monster truck one though, didnt turn out quite like i had planned. i had originally wanted it higher up, but as i started frosting the truck part, the weight of the frosting smashed down my bottom layer. the result was a regular looking truck, not a lifted monster truck. i was disappointed, but my nephew could care less. he was happy that it even resembled a truck. i used chocolate donuts as wheels. that was his favorite part. :)
my backyardigans cake turned out really well. i made pablo the penguin, for those of you who are somewhat familiar with this show. i made his hat really high though, but the rest of it was pretty awesome. no one could really tell the difference. i was satisfied with both of the cakes. the more cakes that i do, the more confident i become. i knew exactly which shapes i would need to make the cakes and just let my artistic side take over. my favorite part is the frosting. i love mixing and making the different colors. i am actually getting really good at figuring out how much frosting i should need for the cakes i am making, so i dont end up getting too much. i dont use the fancy piping bags or attachments, i just use ziploc baggies and cut a small or big hole at the end of one of the corners. WAY cheaper and easier.
next weekend i have two more cakes to do, then i am DONE for awhile!
here are my final products and some other pictures from this weekend. hope everyone had a great weekend. i am on my spring break and am looking forward to sleeping in tomorrow! well, sleeping in until the kids wake up.
