last saturday, we threw my dad a bday party. he turned 70. can you believe it?
we had lots of family and friends over to our house to celebrate. i made shrimp pasta, garlic bread, pasta primavera and hotdogs. try and guess which one we ran out of first? yes, the hotdogs! even when you try to go fancy, some good ol' fashioned hotdogs always do the trick.
i made cupcakes, a cake with peanut butter frosting (for my brother's bday) and brownies for dessert. all were a huge success. the peanut butter frosting was a first for me. it turned out great and it was super easy. it is definitely for the peanut butter lover (i am talking to you sara :)). we had TONS of leftover pasta. i made way too much and i ended up sending everyone home with some doggie bags full of pasta.
we had loads of fun visiting with friends and laughing. the kids loved playing with their pal, rachel. she is way too good to them. uncle trevor even got in on the action. the kids would take turns tackling him to the ground.
there was only one bad part to the party...flies!
the party was outside, so i figured we would be attracting some flies, just not the entire fly population of southern california. i had citronella candles and a fly trap bag. it did nothing to deter them from our food. me, being the neurotic and perfectionist that i am, was having major anxiety issues with this. it was one of those things that was out of my control and i couldnt do anything about it. all in all, i think my dad had a great party with great friends and family, despite the flies.
we love you dad!!
we love you pop pop!!
