first dodger game of the season

we went to the dodger game tonight, it was part of jesse's father's day present. just a little early though.

it was a 5pm start time which means sun, and if you know my husband at all, you know he hates the sun. despises it. wishes he lived in the northwest.

anyway, it wasn't too bad, but it took until about 6 before we wound up in the shade. we got there about an hour and a half early for batting practice. i took ellie to the bathroom first thing and when i met the boys at our seats, jesse said that they already got a ball. it was a ground rule double from who knows who from the rockies. then jesse tells me that ubaldo jimenez (the starting pitcher at last year's all start game) is standing right in front of us on the field. for the next 10 minutes of the kids and jesse yelling his name, he finally agrees to sign our ball!! yay!! jj was REALLY excited!

it was also $1 dodger dog day. that made me REALLY excited!! not that i love food or anything.

so then the game gets started and matt kemp (dodger centerfielder) is very close to where our seats are and between innings, he warms up with andre ethier. after warmups are over, the players throw the ball into the stands for the fans. after the first inning, kemp throws the ball straight to us!! jesse catches it and gives it to jj. prior to this, jesse talked to jj about giving a batting practice ball to someone else, if he happened to get another one. well as soon as jesse handed him the matt kemp ball, he offered it to the boys next to us and the dad said, "no, it's yours. you keep it". jj replied with, "no, it's ok, we already have one". AWWWWWWW.

that is what the whole section of people around us said. it was so sweet. jj didn't even bat an eye. he didn't complain or whine about giving up a ball. i was so proud.

another time, ellie kept saying "hi, matt!" in between pitches in her little girly voice to matt kemp. probably 10 times. after a batter struck out, matt kemp turned around and we waved and he gave us the "head nod" meaning hi. ellie got all shy and happy that he actually acknowledged her. she couldn't understand why he can't hear us, because when she plays, she hears us say hi to her. so adorable. so glad there are nice people in this world.

overall, it was a great game. the dodgers won 7-1 and the kids did great too. i even got a good picture of the kids smiling acting like they actually like each other. who knew?

this was the ball ubaldo signed for us
